Can you believe that it is almost 2020? It’s almost the new year (and decade!) which means that it’s time to reflect on the past few years, and come up with a list of resolutions! We all have the ordinary ones such as work out, drink less soda, travel, and get rich. Those all sound great, don’t get me wrong. Yet to make the perfect personalized list, there are some questions that you should ask yourself in order to really understand what your goals are and to be able to stick with them. Here is a list of questions to ask yourself before the clock strikes midnight!

What was your favorite memory of the past year, what makes it your favorite?

Looking back at the past year to see what brought you joy is important when moving on to the new year, remember to be grateful that you have another year, and another fresh start! Think of the great times this year, and try to incorporate the things that made it so memorable!

What was your most proud moment of 2019? Your least?

Whether you won an Oscar, had a baby or even just survived the year, it is crucial to reflect on what made you proud and what did not. If you had to borrow money from your parents or just chose the wrong haircut, learning and growing from those experiences that you wouldn’t put on the top of the happy memory list is essential to learning from your mistakes.

What do you want to accomplish in your work life next year? Personal life?

Find your goals and write them down, for each part of your life. Even if they change throughout the year, it is nice to have a reference to look back to and at the end of the year you can look and see what you accomplished, or what has changed since the last time you made a true list of all the desires of your heart.

What is something you would like to overcome this upcoming year?

Scared of heights? Go skydiving. Procrastination? Well… I’ll get back to you on that one! No matter what your fear is, or something that you think you come up short in, find a way to help yourself grow and learn. You don’t have to go to the extremes like skydiving, but reflect and come up with a plan that helps you grow into a better person in your own eyes!

What do you want to learn?

Do you want to learn sign language or to better manage your finances? Knowing what you want to learn and skills that you want to develop or further can help you find motivation and help you schedule your time in the new year!

If you could change one thing about the last year, what would it be?

Now is your chance to change it in the new year! Figure out what you want to change, and then change it! Let it go, and have a great year, without the burdens of the past, because there is no way to change the past, but the rest of your life is unwritten!

Find a word or phrase, and live by it!

This isn’t so much a question, but it’s a great suggestion! Finding a word to live your year by is inspiring and can help you maintain your motivation and really help you grow as a person. “Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose!” – Friday Night Lights

Good luck in the new year, let it be full of blessings and self-growth! I hope you enjoyed this list and are ready to conquer the new year and decade! You can do anything you set your mind to, and never be afraid to reset, every day is a new day!
